VE 75 Day 8th May 2020
Wycombe Marsh Branch of The Royal British Legion, on Cock Lane, is our local branch of the national charity that helps members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families.
Its members are inviting residents to display red, white and blue balloons, flags and bunting outside their properties (homemade or bought!) on Friday 9th May 2020 to commemorate VE day - when the allied forces fighting in the second world war announced their victory, 75 years ago.
For those of you home schooling this is an opportunity for a couple of different lessons; art and craft – making bunting or decorations suitable to go outside, or History – Finding out more about happened on 8th May 1945 and why it is called VE Day. The Royal British Legion website www.britishlegion.org.uk has some helpful information and activities on it for VE75 Day activities.
If you are on Facebook or access YouTube a Virtual Parade is being made by Royal British Legion Parade Marshal’s and Standard Bearers, this is photos are being sent in to the Standard Bearer Forum on Facebook and made into a video where the photos are being formed into a parade! This video will go live on the 8th May 2020 on these platforms.
We hope to be able to celebrate VJ 75 Day on the 16th August 2020 with a service at the Wycombe Marsh War Memorial, and that the Poppy Appeal and Remembrance Sunday in November will go ahead as normal with wreath laying at the Wycombe Marsh War Memorial, where of course everyone will be welcome.
